Getting Our Students Ready for the 21st Century
It is without question that our community’s future and the future of our children are strongly linked. As we strive to provide the skills, knowledge, and mindsets needed for future success we need to move away from a one size fits all educational system. We need to provide all of our children with useful skills that will improve our workforce, and generate thoughtfully engaged citizens who will help our community reach its full potential. Making these necessary changes will ultimately prepare them for the real world challenges of the 21st century.
When a homeowner considers remodeling their home, they think carefully about the condition of the roof, the floors, plumbing and wiring. They make sure their home matches the needs of the family. Often, the task needs to be a collective effort. Many people contribute to the success of the project -the plumber, the electrician, and the carpenter are all working towards the same goal to re-finish the house. They all contribute to the success of the finished product. Yet, the character of the house is preserved; many aspects are still strong and sturdy.

Remodeling Our Education at Twinfield
Similar to remodeling a house, we are remodeling education. Twinfield has many solid foundational supports. We have historically embraced personalization and flexible pathways for our students through Renaissance as well as the Barre Technical School, online classes, dual enrollment, and many other unconventional opportunities.
We are in the midst of learning about how to effectively use standard-based learning as the state will soon be requiring proficiency-based graduation requirements. We are beginning our work on how to effectively meet the state mandate, Act 77, which requires personalized learning plans and encourages flexible pathways for engaged students who are empowered as equal partners.
The job of educating students can no longer be limited to the walls of TUS. Shaping our next 50 years together will require all members of our community to play important roles as students embrace real-world learning opportunities and relevant career development experiences. Together students, parents, educators, school board members, business leaders, and community members can help remodel our school into an environment that prepares students for a future we may not presently comprehend.
